SmartDoor: Face Recognition Entry Without Keys, Fobs or Codes

Keys get copied. Fobs get stolen. Codes get shared. SmartDoor replaces all three with the one credential a person cannot lose: their face.
How it should work
Enrollment. An administrator adds a resident or employee and captures a reference set of images. The system stores a mathematical face template, not photographs.
Approach detection. A camera at the entrance detects a person entering the zone and wakes the recognition pipeline.
Verification. The live face is matched against the enrolled templates. A confident match unlocks the door in well under a second, hands free.
Liveness check. Before unlocking, the system confirms it is seeing a real person, not a printed photo or a phone screen.
Fallback. No match means no silent failure: the visitor is offered the intercom, and the call — with live video — is routed to the resident or the security desk.
Audit trail. Every entry, denial and manual override is logged with timestamp, camera frame and the identity used.
Integration with existing hardware
SmartDoor is designed to sit on top of an existing access control installation rather than replace it. It speaks to standard electric strikes, maglocks and controllers, so a building can add face recognition to doors it already has, and keep fobs as a secondary credential during the transition.
Privacy by design
Face templates are encrypted and cannot be reversed into an image. Retention periods are configurable per site, enrollment always requires explicit consent, and administrators can delete a person's biometric data permanently in one action.
Where it fits
Residential buildings, offices, gyms, coworking spaces and any facility where credential sharing is a real security and billing problem.
