Rent Car: Biometric Vehicle Rental From Booking to Return

Traditional car rental spends most of its cost on the counter: verifying documents, handing over keys, inspecting the vehicle, and disputing damage afterwards. Our Rent Car project removes the counter entirely.

How it should work

Book. The customer reserves a vehicle and time slot in the app.

Verify identity. The driver photographs their licence and takes a selfie. The system matches the two, checks the document for tampering, and performs a liveness check so the person unlocking the car is the person on the licence.

Condition capture. Before handover, the customer is guided to photograph the vehicle from fixed angles. Computer vision records the baseline state — existing scratches, dents and interior condition.

Unlock. Once identity and baseline are confirmed, the vehicle is unlocked digitally. No key exchange, no staff on site.

During the rental. Mileage, fuel or charge level and geofence status are tracked; the customer can extend the rental in the app.

Return. The same guided photo flow runs again. The system compares before and after, flags new damage automatically, and closes the contract with a transparent, evidence-backed report.

Why it matters

For the operator: lower staffing cost, 24/7 availability, and far fewer damage disputes because both parties see the same timestamped evidence.

For the driver: pick up a car at three in the morning without waiting for anyone.

Security considerations

Biometric data is used only for the verification event and stored under strict retention rules. Every unlock is logged against a verified identity, and anomalous behaviour — a mismatch between the booking holder and the driver, for example — blocks the unlock and escalates to a human operator.
